this retroregionalist piece of design is of pure mexican creativity. and now i own a pair.
i fell in love when i first layed eyes on it while flipping through the wallpaper city guide to mexico city. during the trip, while strolling through the condesa neighborhood (the design district, if you may) i saw it in an antique shop, but was way too expensive and way too difficult to transport to my hometown. but what was my surprise when the antigroom told me a few months later that my birthday present was a pair, already on their way!
the name: acapulco chair. the materials: a wire structure woven with plastic cable. as simple as that. and lounging in it is completely comfortable.
i imagine it being a piece of outdoor furniture at elizabeth taylor and richard burton's beach house and the aqua color only emphasizes the imagery. oh, what glamour from the 50's-60's era...
